Vym Icon Test #1
Friday, November 26, 2010
by Chris
Even though I don't use Fedora linux, I joined the fedora design team to help with some design tasks. My first project was ticket #165: Design a new icon for Vym (View Your Mind). Vym is mind mapping software.
The only thing I could make out in the original Vym icon (here) is that there is a blue head. The rest of the icon was very confusing. let alone hard to iconify. So I decided to take a chance and redo the enitre logo. After a dozen or so sketches, I finally settled on this:
Now for the icons themselves, i need to do a couple of things to better adhere to Tango icon guidelines:

- drop shadow
- 1px border for all icon sizes.
Icons and logo was done in Inkscape.

Revised the inks on the Uncle Sam picture here. I'm making a vintage cereal box with Uncle Sam on the front as the mascot. The actual cereal and bowl will be done in 3D.

Halloween Cards Rework, Final
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
by Chris
Finished the rework of the Halloween Cards I did for my son's daycare classes. I did the original a couple of years ago, but wanted to update this to give away to anyone who wants to use it. Will either post on OpenClipArt.org or offer it as a download on my site.

OpenClipArt Icons
by Chris
Created some social media icons for Openclipart.org, based on their logo. (It might actually be there previous logo since I don't see it on the website anymore.) Anyway, the icon was based on the work of Paul Robert Lloyd, and I already use some on the site here.
New Personal Website
Thursday, August 26, 2010
by Chris
Finally completed my new website. Tried a more simplified approach this time around with only a few pages. I rarely blogged anymore so I got rid of Wordpress and decided to go with only Blogspot.
Now I'm just going through my art archives and will be slowly adding to the gallery. But I will mainly be adding only new worthy pieces to the collection.
As far as any other web development is concerned, I'm currently working on a site for a friend and will eventually fool around with my current blogger template to make it "prettier".

Trying to help the Bangarang Media Project with some icons for various music and movie genres. The first one I did is for Sci-Fi. It was done in Inkscape and the rings were done using the gradient feature.
Hallway Background

I've finished the set for the opening shots of the animation:
Scene 2, Shot 1 has the robot trash can entering from the right, then coming down the hallway towards the camera. I'm almost done with the texturing on the trash can. After that I can begin animating this scene.

A quick render of a trash bot from Industrial Garbage animation. I just need to finish the final lighting, and textures: eye, logo, spec, ref. Rendered in Blender. Modeled in Wings. Will post more technical details when I finish the final image.
IG - Calender Shot
Saturday, February 27, 2010
by Chris
Scene Four of Industrial Garbage (my animation short) brings us to an office in the building. To show the passing of time to midnight on a Saturday, I decided to use a digital desktop calendar with a clock.
I modeled the calendar in Inkscape, based on the Lightning calendar plugin for Thunderbird. Since the calendar interface looked just like a spreadsheet, I started to use Calc from Open Office. I stuck with Inkscape as it gave me more graphical flexibility.
The two calendar shots bookend a couple of shots of the office.

Well, according to my 5 year-old. Have to give thanks to J-Man for the inspiration. This is based on a sketch done here.

This pig sketch was done in Inkscape. Not sure what I'm going to use for the background yet. Thinking about making his pen. Maybe an immaculately clean pen.

Was finally able to release this little demon from the back of my mind. The initial sketch rendering of Bub, The Jersey Devil. My eventual goal is to do a webcomic with this little fella.
